Thanks to Susan of Vector Central for bring this to my attention.

I have been corresponding with a gentleman about his ISP who is putting the 'Spam code' on all his mail - almost 99% of all his mail! Everything he sends out has 'Spam' added to his subject line by his ISP without his knowing. This is an innocent man who is distressed about getting a bad reputation. If you get this type of email - Don't slander the sender - CALL YOUR ISP AND SEE IF THEY DO IT TO YOUR EMAIL.

If innocent words like: 'free' or 'home business' and numerous others are in an email, they label it 'Spam'. Is your ISP or host filtering your mail and classifying your mail as Spam?

Let's investigate before we accuse people - Please! There's been too much sending around of names and accusing people before the truth is known. It's not a pleasant experience to be accused of spam and VERY unfair to be falsely accused! Let's not do this to others! Call your ISP or host today and ask about their filter policies. If you don't like them, demand they take it off your account. If they refuse - MOVE. Where? My host is Marketrends.net - now, would I use them if they weren't GREAT? Not a chance...Marketrends

The response to NO SPIN ZONE has been fantastic. I will continue to bring you what you want and need. Thank you very much for your continued support through your letters and purchases of advertising. I appreciate all you do for me. Remember, all opinions in this issue are mine...

This ezine comes out every other Saturday, unless there is something urgent. Please check the archives (link below) to read issues you missed. Take a look at the Promo offers at the right. I haven't sold the space there as yet so the ads are mine. Be sure and see the last one. I'm really excited about this one! Another thing I'm excited about is my new partnership with Theresa Cahill of MyWizardAds fame. Watch for that news in Tuesday's Ad Agency. It just keeps getting better ;-)

My iNetStar Investigation Continues

No one I've talked to has heard from Greg Locke the CEO of iNetStar and iConnectStar. I personally know more than a couple insiders and tons of afftiliates who are sure he has bailed and ran. BUT, his company is still there - taking money from x-affiliates bank accounts and credit cards! Yes, I know that, I'm one of them. And, for those of you who say to stop payment or charge back - the rules have changed! Many credit card companies and banks are saying if the company is still actively online 'we' have to get the company to send them a letter and instruct the them to refund or stop the transactions. Yeah, right!!

If anyone needs Locke's home address or phone number in Montana, email me. I have them. My emails and calls to Locke's partner (now owner?) of iNetStar go unanswered. They took down my sites right away when I quit in August. They are still taking my money! I am looking into other avenues to reach them. My only advice for now is to change banks, stop using THAT credit card and keep records of their illegal withdrawals. I'll be in touch.

Response to ED Article: Who's Killing Ezines & Why?

by T.R. Iwaniw

I was directed to your article by one of our associates and I found it very interesting. I read it a few times to insure that I was fully understanding the point that you were trying to make. What I found interesting was that you seem to be looking for a conspiracy where, in my opinion, one really doesn't exist. Do you really believe that all the parties you mention are singling out e-zine publishers?

Let me give you a bit of background about myself and our business. We publish 5 separate e-zines and newsletters. A couple have been published for a few years, one has evolved from another one, and a couple have been launched just recently. I have seen the battle brewing on the Internet regarding e-mail for the past few years. So, regarding online publishing (in all forms), we've been involved in one way, shape, or form since about the early 1990's.

Now, you make a point about a few of the third-party services regarding publishing activities. Without going into great details, that is the main reason that we no longer use any third-party services as a primary resource for our publishing needs...

The Anti-UCE (Spam) Bunch (Reprint by Request)
By Bobbette Madonna, your publisher.

Think I'm over-reacting about spam-filters? Are they just trying to catch 'real spammers'? Do they protect the innocent email senders? Consider this: Ben Johnson has been sending e-mail for months from his Hotmail account, but he just discovered that some of them were diverted to the trash before arriving at their destination. Read about it.

The decision by Yahoo to use a word-altering e-mail filter to guard against the execution of malicious Web code is generating buzz in the Internet security space and experts predict ISPs will follow the company's lead to implement aggressive forms of virus protection.

To protect against hidden code in e-mail written in HTML or other cross-scripting techniques, Yahoo has admitted to using a security filter that automatically deletes 'potentially' harmful Web code and replace that text with strange words. According to published reports, Yahoo was replacing the word eval with review. By blacklisting eval, Yahoo's filter made words like evaluate appear as ereviewuate. The site said mocha was being changed to espresso and expression was replaced with statement even if the phrase appears within a word, all aimed at blocking words that can be used to launch malicious JavaScript codes. Click the link below and go see what some code words are that will send YOUR EMAIL to the junk box - never to reach it's destination.

Here is a sample: Body contains 'money back'
Body contains 'cards accepted'
Body contains 'removal instructions'
Body contains 'extra income'
From contains 'hello@'
Body contains 'SPECIAL PROMOTION'
Well, so much for my Fall Special Promotion!! I wonder how many of my readers do NOT receive what they have subscribed to and want due to the interpatations of an ISP's conclusions of what they consider to be UCE.

Now, I KNOW there is a spam (UCE) problem. I get it by the tons (including porn, which the powers just can't seem to stop) I know there are scammers out there sending unwanted emails to millions every day. However, IS IT EZINES? NO! They have readers that have subscribed and that is NOT SPAM! Why are the anti-spam haters targeting US along with the 'real culprits? Well, because they CAN! Like all law abiding citizens working at making a living, we are easy targets, unlike the truly guilty who do use UCE to sell their wares and it has to do with MONEY and POWER, of course and the fact that they don't want anyone capable of making money except THEM. Don't forget, ezines take a big bite out of their advertising dollars. So do Co-ops. All the Big ISPs sell stuff (including your email addresses) and they have clients that they contract to sell stuff for and they are getting rid of the competition - Ezines. Why? MONEY.

That's always the bottom line when the powers that be - create an AGENDA! They can candy coat it any way they want. Follow the money and you'll find the power people creating their dasterdly deeds to rid the world of honest hard-working publishers and business list owners along with the guilty UCE pushers! That's my conclusion and I'm sticking with it until proven wrong!
Go ahead, give it a shot.

Opt-This, Opt-That: Putting Permission to Rest

by Edward Grossman
Last month, Michael Mayor, president of NetCreations took me to task on my interchangeable use of the terms 'confirmed opt-in' and 'double opt-in.' My view of confirmed opt-in was it is just a nicer way of saying double opt-in. To politicize it a little bit, marketers like to use the word 'double' to indicate the extra burden, antispammers like the word 'confirmed' to indicate the user doesn't have to sign up twice but must only verify intent.

I Found That Woman
by Bobbette Madonna

Follow up on previous article (check the Saturday archives)

In my determined search to find that woman, I did and finally had the opportunity to explain to Darcy, (who is responsible for enabling people to autorespond to publishers) that their customers are sending unsolicited emails. I wrote the following to the abuse@GetResponse department.

I have emailed Donna (it bounced), wrote an article in my ezine about Donna and called Donna (no answer - ever!), went to her site and can't get in touch with her/him to stop these mailings in every email box I own many times a day - enough already! If you can't stop this I am going to contact every URL in her ads and tell them what is going on!! Please respond to this email. (I sent the header and Donna's email) and here is what I received:

You are receiving email from this account, because you continually email our client's address: We have removed your email address.
Darcey Christie, Supervisor Policy Enforcement Department Get Response! Get Response

Here is my response: Dear Darcey, Yes, and that is because your client subscribed to my ezine just long enough to get my addresses. Then unsubscribed and linked my addresses to his/her autoresponder. That's how it works. Thank you for unsubscribing my emails. I will inform my readers just how to solve this kind of spam since I have the evidence. Sincerely, Ms. Madonna
